the NIV says
If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints?
The KJV says
Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
The question is what is the difference and how does it change the meaning.
My answer is the unjust are not equitable. In other words the unjust are people who are not fair and balanced in their judgments. They are going to unbelievers whose judgment is not balanced it is slanted a particular way. I say they were judge shopping in order to defraud their brethren vs. 7-8
The ungodly would mean that they have no fear or respect for God. not necessarily unjust but no respect for the ways of God. So the newer versions would have you believe that it is wrong to stand for judgment before a non believer. That the sin this church was doing was being judged by a non believer, not defrauding each other before the world, and using the unsaved to do it.
Here is your opportunity to sound off on this, what do you think?
